Depending on your printer port capability the transfer speed is up to 1.4MByte a second. The speed does not decrease while transferring zipped (compressed) files.
- MEDIUM:
- Bidirectional <-> Bidirectional 100-300 kB/s
- HIGH:
- ECP <-> ECP 300-600 kB/s
- TURBO:
- ECP-DMA <-> ECP-DMA 450-1400 kB/s
Hints:
The ECP-DMA mode is not correct implemented on some PC-Bios.(Background info: The computer manufacturer had a different opinion, which one of the four different DMA-Modes they will support and which one they say to be via PnP mechanism. We have seen this problem on a few boards from 1994,1995 and on some Acer boards until 1998.)This is the reason why Powercopy uses the DEMAND-DMA by default. But if you have errors using this mode you should try to change the default value to SINGLE-DMA, by uncommenting the parmeter /DMA-S in the main configfile 'PC__ovwr.ini'. Under pure DOS you can also use the commandline parameter /DMA-S. Please note, if you change this parameter in the file PC__ovwr.ini, you can not change this parameter by using command line options.
If you have problems with the SINGLE-DMA mode again, then try to get an BIOS update for your computer. If you cannot get an BIOS-update then use the DMA-free (standard ECP) transfer mode by not using /Turbo parameter or the Turbo buttton under Win9x Dialogs.The file PC__ovwr.ini is located in the same folder, where you have installed Powercopy.
The PC__ovwr.ini mechanism is supported if the version of the Powercopy main transfer program file PC.EXE is >=V1.02.
